I graduated from the University of Cincinnati in 2016 with a B.S. in Graphic Communication Design and five semesters of internships under my belt. I first moved to Chicago, Illinois where I worked as part of the in-house marketing team at Lifeway Foods. After interviewing for packaging design, I was hired for a digital design role instead that encompassed all print and digital marketing needs and launched my career as creative cornerstone in marketing and design operations.
Trust the process.
I approach brand development and general creative problem solving with a five-step process. Each of which are crucially important and build upon the last.
A successful design is built on the foundation of an airtight strategy.
While the research and legwork of a project are usually not the most glamorous, they are definitively the most important step.
Content drives design, not the other way around.
The best visual results come from keeping your communication goals top of mind and rooting your project in a flawless information or content architecture.
Direct, consistent communication with regular stakeholder alignment is key.
From processes and deadlines to the creative work itself, it is important that all stakeholders are on the same page at all times, and that we only move on to the next step with a unanimous yes.
All we know, is that we know nothing - insights over personal biases.
It’s easy to fall into the trap of building your brand around your personal preferences and assumptions - because it’s your brand and you should be able to sell it right? Wrong. Your brand needs to speak to your target audience, and you do that with data insights.
When I am not basking in the warm glow of my computer screen, you might find me somewhere in the Black Forest battling yet another blister, eating my way around a new city, in the midst of an overly ambitious kitchen adventure, or binging Gilmore Girls for the 20th time.
I spent the next two years with the law firm Loeb & Loeb where, as the sole designer, I provided graphic support to the events, business development, and product teams, as well as all attorneys and professional groups firm-wide.
In 2020 I moved to Denver, Colorado and began my freelancing career, which has led me to work with a wide variety of brands, clients, and agencies over the years. This also enabled me to pursue my passion for traveling. So after 2.5 years in Denver, I started hopping around the US, South America, and Europe before settling in Freiburg, Germany for good (probably).
The five pillars of my design philosophy and methodology
