Vinyasa Dressage

Vinyasa Dressage combines dressage horse training classes with vinyasa style yoga classes. The core value in both dressage and yoga focuses on one's breathing and finding a steady rhythm from within. The client wanted a logo that exuded a calm, comfortable, homegrown feel.

Original artwork

The client already had a logo comprised of a flower and horse, but desired a completely different style of artwork. They loved the feel of the initial concept sketch but wanted a digital representation of it that maintained that artistic “sketchy” quality.

I quickly converted the sketch to vector and painted it in photoshop to illustrate how a digital version of the logo could maintain that hand-drawn look and feel.

Hand to digital illustration

I began with sketching, sketching and more sketching until I was happy with a few illustrations. I traced those illustrations over with pen to create varying line-weight by hand and then proceeded to convert my illustrations into vector art using photoshop.

I repeated this process, tracing over each illustration with pen and scanning them in anew over and over, until I found the right balance throughout.

Watercolor

I printed the final vector black and white logo mark on watercolor paper and painted ten different versions of the logo.

I then scanned in the paintings, compiled elements from a few different watercolor drafts in photoshop, and converted the finals to vector. In the end I was left with an art-based logo that retained the look, feel, and quality of a hand-painted illustration.
